Berlin – The anniversary of the November pogroms of 1938 was obviously deliberately chosen by the Palestinian group Rote Blüte Palästina (Red Blossom Palestine) for the protest “against colonialism, imperialism, exploitation, and oppression”. The text of the announcement of the rally states that they want to “then go and clean Stolpersteine together in Neukölln”.
Berlin’s Antisemitism Commissioner Samuel Salzborn stated that “it is doubly disgraceful that hatred of Israel is linked to the commemoration of the Shoah …The victims of National Socialism are mocked, while at the same time hatred of the Jewish state of Israel is fueled.”
The flyer used to advertise the rally shows a person masked with a so-called Palestinian scarf and holding a slingshot. This is “an open and unmistakable affirmation of violence,” says Salzborn. The slogan “From Berlin to Palestine” makes it clear that “the threat of violence is also directed towards Berlin… In the words and pictures of the announcement, a massive radicalization is more than clear.”
Salzborn sees the announced rally in a line with demonstrations in 2014 and 2021, at which there was repeated hatred of Israel and Jews. This expresses “an increasingly dangerous radicalization that must also be intensively perceived in terms of security policy”. He also sees the choice of date for the rally as an “attack on memory and commemoration”.
