Teherán – Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said Monday that “further research” is needed to determine whether the Holocaust really happened.

In a 60 Minutes interview, Raisi was asked by presenter Lesley Stahl if he believed the Holocaust happened, prompting a controversial reply.

“Historical events should be investigated by researchers and historians. There are some signs that it happened. If so, they should allow it to be investigated and researched.”

In response, Prime Minister Yair Lapid tweeted a collage of horrific images from the Holocaust, captioning it as “some signs.”

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan slammed the Iranian leader on Twitter, calling the remarks “shocking”.

“I call on Antonio Guterres to DENY THAT DENIER a world stage to spread antisemitism and hatred. The UN will reach a new low if they give the Butcher of Tehran a platform,” Erdan said.
