Weimar – Unknown persons have smeared posters of the Jewish-influenced Achava Festival in Weimar.

At least three posters of the Jewish-influenced Achava festival were defaced over the weekend, the city administration announced on Monday. The festival itself had previously informed about the graffiti via Twitter. A complaint had been filed against unknown persons, it said.

“I condemn these acts in the strongest possible terms,” said Mayor Peter Kleine (independent) according to the announcement. The city stands firmly with the Achava Festival and the victims of antisemitism. He asked residents to stay alert and be sensitive to racist and antisemitic remarks. “Historical oblivion, intolerance and hatred must not be accepted unchallenged,” Kleine continued.
