Berlin – Four unknown men damaged the “Gleis 17” memorial in Berlin’s Grunewald.

According to police, they scratched a Star of David and the word “Israel” into the stone wall of the monument on Sunday evening. The metal plaque was also damaged.

Police officers noticed indentations and abrasion of paint. A witness called the police. The alleged perpetrators fled. According to the information, the police state protection takes over the further investigations.

The memorial commemorates the victims of the Holocaust. From there in 1941 and 1942 about 10,000 Jews were taken to Nazi labor, concentration and extermination camps on Reichsbahn trains. In March, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) visited the memorial with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and commemorated the victims there.
