Russia – Antisemitic tweet of the Russian embassy in Cairo

The Egyptian embassy posted a tweet on Sunday lashing out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and linking him to Israel.

“The head of the Nazi regime in Kiev, who is linked by blood to Israel, arrived at the main political conference of the Arab world and dared to brazenly lie about the origins of the crisis between Russia and Ukraine,” read the embassy’s tweet, which was later deleted as users began commenting on the blatantly antisemitic and anti-Israeli language in the text.

The tweet was later reposted but without the link to Zelenskyy’s Jewishness or Israel. It can be assumed that the anti-Israeli language was intended to pluck a string among Egyptians in particular and the Arabic-speaking world in general, in an attempt by Russia to gain greater support in the Arab world.
