Italy – Fake parcel bomb at the Livorno market

On the busiest day for Easter shopping, a bomb threat goes off at the market in Piazza Cavallotti in Livorno. In fact, some passers-by noticed a suspicious package among the external stalls in via Buontalenti. It was 8 in the morning. Carabinieri and police cordoned off the area and the bomb squad arrived from Florence to “manage” the package.

However, it was a bottle with vinegar. Above the box was a flasher with a battery and two wires. The fake orifice was found near the same bench that had already been the subject of offensive writings in the past and some similar episodes.

Investigations are now underway to trace those responsible, also because the same market stall where the parcel was found in the past has been the subject of antisemitic writing.
