USA – Jewish man assaulted in Crown Heights

Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY – A Chasidic Jewish man was assaulted on Shabbos morning in an unprovoked attack in Crown Heights.

The incident occurred this past Shabbos at around 7:30 in the morning, Menachem Zirkind was walking to Rayim Ahuvim Mikvah (Corner of Schenectady and Carroll) when he was assaulted.

As he walked on Schenectady between Eastern Parkway and Union, a tall black man approached him. Despite moving to the side, the man came right up to Zirkind and smacked him across the face before walking off.

Zirkind was in total shock and quickly walked away from the man towards Union Street, he told COLlive.com.

Suddenly, he heard someone shouting and turned around to see who it was. It happened to be a garbage collector who had been nearby and witnessed the incident.

The garbage collector ran back towards Eastern Parkway for the second time but returned a few minutes later saying he didn’t see the guy anymore. He wished Zirkind luck and went off.

Shortly afterwards, Zirkind went to the police outside of 770 and told them what happened. They filed a police report and told him a sergeant would come to his house shortly. About ten minutes later, the sergeant arrived to ask some more questions. They said they would investigate and when they find him, they will arrest him.
