Germany – Damage to a mezuzah in a Berlin synagogue

Berlin – Damage was discovered early on Saturday morning at the Tifret Israel Synagogue on Passauer Strasse in Schöneberg.

According to the Berlin police, a security officer from the Jewish community called the police around 7 a.m. on Saturday morning. Unknown persons had opened the mezuzah, a wooden box with a document that is considered a talisman, on the door of the rabbi who lives in the building and stole the document.

Police officers had already been called to the synagogue a few hours earlier because a passer-by had noticed a destroyed doorbell and rubbish in front of the front door of the house on Passauer Strasse. The police later found the Mezuzah there. State security is investigating property damage and theft.
