Göttingen – After the threatening letter to the Turkish-Islamic Ditib community in Goettingen , a letter with right-wing extremist and anti-Semitic content was sent to the Jewish community in the university town this week.

Mayor Petra Broistedt takes this as an opportunity to call the members of the “Dialogue of Religions” together.

Representatives of the religious communities and communities from the city and district of Göttingen have been invited to the special round, which has already met four times in the past few years.

“The interreligious dialogue serves the purpose of exchange. It emphasizes what people have in common and promotes togetherness. This strengthens society when it comes to countering radical right-wing, Islamophobic and antisemitic hate speech, combating it effectively and committing to an open and tolerant society,” says Broistedt.

“Jewish life and the Jewish faith belong to Göttingen. Against the background of Göttingen’s history under National Socialism alone, I condemn any anti-Semitic threats to the Jewish communities.”

“Only with these clear commitments to be by our side can we continue to be an open synagogue that is happy to receive guests,” emphasizes the board of the Jewish community in Göttingen in view of the threatening letters. The Office for Integration will soon invite you to the dialogue meeting.
